GA Application and Hiring Procedure

Below is more information about the GA position and the application process.  If you are interested, please consider submitting your letter of interest to Alesha Sohler at asohler@sfsu.edu and she will forward it to the GA Committee.

Purpose

In keeping with the EdD program’s commitment to promote and support a doctoral culture within the EdD program at SF State, EdD students are encouraged to apply for a semester-long Graduate Assistantship (GA) for up to $3,408. To be eligible, students must be in good academic standing who will be in their third year during the semester in which the GA is awarded.  Exceptions may be made in certain circumstances.  The purpose of the GA Program is to provide support for the EDDL program through activities that develop mentorship and teaching skills, while also strengthening the student connections between cohorts.
 How the Assistantships Work

Students awarded a Graduate Assistantship will be employed by SFSU and the Ed.D. Program to support instructors in one of the classes for first- or second-year students. GAs are expected to attend every class session and be prepared to support students in course activities as well as providing assistance and feedback on assignments. The payment for this position is $3,408 paid out over the months of the semester in which the GA is hired at.
Note:  This is NOT a tuition waiver, you will be receiving a paycheck from the University. Students who hold faculty, lecturer or staff positions at SFSU are not eligible to apply for a Graduate Assistantship.

Please submit a letter of interest of no more than two pages in which you:

  • Describe your interest in the position
  • List in order of preference at least two courses you are interested in being a GA for
