Assistant Professor of Higher Education 

The Department of Education Leadership, Management & Policy in the College of Education and Human Services at Seton Hall University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of higher education, with a focus on international higher education, beginning August 16, 2020. 

The Department of Education Leadership, Management, and Policy offers M.A., Ed.S., Ed.D., and Ph.D. programs for students who seek educational leadership, policy, and research positions in institutions of higher education, government agencies, non-profit education organizations, and K-12 schools. 

Seton Hall University is located in South Orange, New Jersey, just 14 miles from New York City. It is the oldest Catholic diocesan institution of higher education in the United States, and the Carnegie Foundation classifies it as Doctoral/Professional. It is home to approximately 6,300 undergraduate and 4,700 graduate students from all 50 states and more than 60 foreign countries. Accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the College of Education and Human Services is one of Seton Hall's eleven colleges and schools. It offers programs at the bachelors, masters and doctoral levels and is noted for its nontraditional scheduling, its hands-on internships and its community involvement 

Duties and Responsibilities 

Responsibilities include teaching courses on international higher education as well as other agreed-upon courses based on the candidate's background and skills; utilizing blended learning technologies, conducting impactful research and publishing scholarly work on international higher education; advising master's and doctoral students; supervising doctoral dissertations and/or field placements; assisting with student recruitment and the growth of master's programs; and contributing to program development and coordination. Faculty members are expected to be active members of the College of Education and Human Services and the broader Seton Hall community in addition to relevant disciplinary and professional organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in higher education, international/comparative education, or a related field by September 1, 2020
  • Ability to teach courses on international/comparative higher education, and related areas
  • Ability to supervise and mentor doctoral dissertations 
  • An active scholarly research agenda in international higher education 
  • Strong background and knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative research methods 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience mentoring doctoral dissertations (both Ed.D. and Ph.D.)
  • A demonstrated record of or clear potential for scholarly achievement (such as peer-reviewed publications, scholarly books, or conference presentations)
  • Ability to teach courses in curriculum and instruction, the history of higher education, or some other existing courses
  • Experience teaching courses in higher education 
  • Interest in developing and teaching courses in nontraditional formats (hybrid, online, exxecutive models)
