Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Planning, Assessment, and Research, the Data Analyst is a Classified position that collects, analyzes, and interprets data from a variety of sources to meet the research needs of the College.  Assignments can include data collection from existing query reports, data manipulation in Excel or similar spreadsheet software, data identification and extraction from external sources, and assisting in the completion of complex regulatory reports. The Data Analyst will assist the College in ensuring reliable data is available for various internal and external audiences in the areas of student services, academic affairs, administrative services, human resources, public information, Foundation; as well as provide research support for College and District needs generated from the President’s Office. On occasion, if needed, the Data Analyst serves as the representative of the Institutional Research department at meetings or presentations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Utilizes appropriate data management and statistical procedures for data collection in support of the College’s Institutional Research department.  Creates, develops, and maintains databases as necessary to support research.
  • Validates, analyzes, and interprets data from a variety of internal and external sources, using strong research skills to identify the most appropriate data for a project.
  • Performs significant supporting tasks in completion of key regulatory reports including but not limited to data collection and organization as well as team coordination.
  • Provides feedback on proposed or completed plans, reports, and research studies as requested by supervisor or key college personnel.
  • Coordinates with external data/research analysts for collaborative research projects.
  • Occasionally presents work as a representative of the Institutional Research department.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

  • Provides feedback on proposed or completed plans, reports, and research studies as requested by supervisor or key college personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a field of study relevant to this data analyst position.
  • Two years of experience related to data collection, management, analysis, and reporting.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a related field of study.
  • Experience recognizing and addressing problems concerning data availability and validity.
  • Experience working with student information systems, preferably in higher education contexts.
