The University of Washington Tacoma’s School of Education (SOE) announces an opening for a full-time, tenure-track Associate Professor and Director of our Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.), a multidisciplinary program that we share with the Nursing and Healthcare Leadership (NHL) Program.

 

In terms of primary area of expertise, we are seeking a candidate with expertise in: (1) higher education, and/or (2) P-12 educational leadership at the superintendent level. The candidate will have primary teaching responsibilities in UW Tacoma’s multidisciplinary Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.). The position will have a nine-month faculty contract starting on September 16, 2019, although a June 2019 start date is possible. The terms of compensation for this role, including course reduction and/or summer pay, will be negotiated with the Dean upon hire.

 

Position Summary: 

The Ed.D. Director will be responsible for providing equitable and excellent leadership to the Ed.D. program. The Director is responsible for overseeing the program’s admissions process; advising faculty, staff, and students on program requirements including coursework, practicum, and capstone project; leading efforts related to assessment, curriculum revision, and program review in collaboration with faculty across campus; course scheduling; enrollment management and marketing; recruiting, supporting, and evaluating part-time lecturers and capstone committees; partnership and outreach development in collaboration with the SOE and NHL Program; and ensuring that students receive a quality experience from admissions through program completion. The Director will also represent UW Tacoma at relevant conferences and events.

 

A.  Higher Education:

The faculty member with higher education expertise will be expected to teach in one or more of the following areas: underrepresented college student success; systems-level transformation; leadership; and/or higher education law and policy. This person will work with a range of higher education leaders across the Puget Sound, and should be committed to transforming higher education policies and practices to support diverse populations. Applicants may have expertise at the community/technical college and/or four-year university levels.

 

B.  P-12 Educational Leadership:

The faculty member with P-12 educational leadership expertise will be expected to teach in one or more of the following areas: school, district, and central-office leadership; the superintendency and systems-level leadership; systems transformation; and educator preparation. This person will work within a range of school and district leaders across the Puget Sound, and should be committed to actively transforming institutional and systems-level practices to support equity and excellence in education. The successful candidate’s core responsibilities will be teaching within the Ed.D.’s Superintendent Certificate Program and potentially in the Educational Administration (Principal Preparation) Program.
